My child isn’t different
Why can’t the others just see He can do anything The same as you and me His hugs are uplifting When I am feeling down His smile is like that Of a happy-face clown Sometimes he is sad After a long day at school He complains and cries The kids think I’m a fool I try to help him see Saying kids don’t understand He looks at me and says Mom, will I ever be a man I hug him so gently And say to my son Yes, you’ll always be Mommy’s number one Home Next: Child's Journal ... Voice- The mother of a child with Aspergers
Audience- Anyone Say Back- I think the author is trying to show what it is like to see her son so upset everyday. That she tries to be supportive but it just breaks her heart to think about what he goes through. Bless- I think the 2nd stanza is the best on. About his hugs being uplifting... that was really good. Address- Can't really think of much. You may want to take out just in the first stanza and make it why cant the others see? That is the only thing I could think of!:) ... Link ... Comment

Voice: The mother of a child with Asperger's Syndrome
Audience: anyone Say Back: She is conveying what it is like for the mother of a child with Asperger's Syndrome. She talks about how her son is capable of doing what others do. She also talks about how her son is treated as a result of the syndrome. Bless: I think that you do a good job at conveying what it would be like to have a child with this syndrome. It shows not only what her child goes through, but also how it hurts her to see him go through it all and how she doesn't see him as a child with Asperger Syndrome. She sees him as her wonderful son. I also like how you kept each line rather short. It makes it easier to read. Address: I don't think that you need to change anything. I think that this is an excellent depiction (I hope I spelled that right) of such a mother. ... Link ... Comment

Hi Summer!
Nice work putting this poem together. It has a light, sing-songy quality to it but that bothered me a little bit. I wondered if this mother actually felt light and sing-songy when she wrote it...and I don't think she did. It's hard to write from someone else's voice....even knowing what that voice should sound like isn't the same as writing with that voice...and I think you wrote knowing in your head what a mother might feel or be concerned about, but I don't think you wrote this feeling those feelings and I'd like to see you try revision as though you were this mother. I think there's more emotion to come into this poem from you, this boy's mother. ... Link ... Comment |
